The Eastern

Method Development completed the FD Lofts conversion, which was an adaptive reuse of a historic fire department originally constructed in 1888. It was one of the first condominium projects to be completed after the City of Detroit emerged from bankruptcy.

The project included the acquisition, predevelopment, permitting and construction management of 31-unit condominium. The redevelopment included installation of a new roof, new mechanical, HVAC and plumbing systems, new doors and windows and exterior upgrades, as well as site improvements and landscaping.

Method Development has retained ownership of a 15,000 square foot commercial building attached to the FD Lofts. Method saw a void in the market for creative retail, and leased 100% of the space to an art gallery and event company.

Today, The Eastern is a top corporate and private event venue in the City of Detroit which has hosted Quicken Loans, Shinola, Ford, General Motors, Nissan, Adobe and BC/BS of Michigan, among others.
