The Merchants Building

The Merchants Building was originally erected by John J. Barlum in 1922 and acquired by Method Development in May of 2022. The impressive building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

The stately reinforced mid-rise building features 8 stories sheathed in white terra-cotta. The building has been vacant for decades. In 2023, Method Development began the reactivation of the building with plans to transform the structure into a boutique hotel featuring a rooftop bar. Method Development is committed to delivering an inclusive and best in class hospitality experience, with the intent that the ground floor of this building will become the “living room” for the neighborhood.

Kraemer Design Group, an award-winning firm focused on historic adaptive-reuse projects, has been retained as the architect of record to oversee all architectural aspects of the project.
